The mobile TV service of Etisalat, the telecom giant of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has received huge response, attracting 100,000 subscribers in two months, local newspaper Gulf News reported on Friday.
The telecom company launched its mobile TV service on Feb. 24, which allows mobile users with 3G enabled handsets to watch popular news, sport and entertainment channels live on their phones.
Customers have responded very well to this service and the service has met Etisalat's expectations, the company's chief communication officer Essa Al Haddad was quoted as saying.
"Achievement of 100,000 subscribers to this service within the first two months reflects a high demand," he added.
The company offers 14 Arabic and English channels to its mobile TV subscribers, including al-Arabiya TV, BBC World, al-Jazeera, Dubai Sports, etc.
"Our mission is to extend people's reach and by launching mobile TV service, customers have the freedom to access information and watch their preferred programs on the move," he said.
Being the second-largest Arab telecom company by market value, Etisalat registered 5.78 million mobile phone users and 700,000 subscribers of its internet service at the end of March.
