Tanzanian police have detained 58 more Somalis for entering the country illegally and are investigating the increased human trafficking in the country.

These Somali illegal immigrants, all from the Somali capital of Mogadishu, were stopped near Moshi in northern Tanzania after they sneaked into the country.

Kilimanjaro Regional Police Commander Lucas Ng'oboko told local media on Friday that 10 of the Somali illegal immigrants are women and these Somalis had travelled either by motor vehicles or on foot during their journey to Tanzania.

Earlier in the week, 18 other Somalis were detained along with 24 Ethiopians for illegally entering the country by boats.

This was the fourth large haul of illegal immigrants entering the country in the past month.

Ninety-nine militiamen fleeing from southern Somalia were detained in southern Tanzania late last month while a northern Tanzanian local resident magistrate's court has fined 30 Ethiopian illegal immigrants 30,000 Tanzanian shillings (24 U.S. dollars) each for entering the country illegally on April 11.

Tanzanian police and immigration officials are still hunting for those believed to be behind the human trafficking of these illegal immigrants.

Most of the illegal immigrants detained in this country claim to be on transit to South Africa or other African countries.
