Chinese FM spokeswoman slashes U.S.report against China's policy on religion
font size

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman on Tuesday expressed "strong dissatisfaction" and "firm opposition" to a U.S. religion body's report against the religious situation in China.

The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) once again took potshots at the religious situation in China and other developing countries in its 2007 annual report, the spokeswoman Jiang Yu said when asked to comment on the report.

That part of the report which involves China skews and accuses China of its policies on religion and ethnic minorities, which shows once again the organization's ignorance and prejudice, said Jiang.

"It is obvious to all that the Chinese government protects Chinese citizens' freedom of religious belief according to law and Chinese citizens enjoy full freedom of religious belief protected by law," the spokeswoman said.

"We advised the USCIRF to stop interfering in other countries' internal affairs under the pretext of religion," Jiang said.
