The total number of visitor arrivals during the Labor Day "Golden Week" this year (April 28 to May 7) was 886,674, up 22 percent compared with the 2006 Labor Day "Golden Week" (April 29May 8), a spokesman for Hong Kong Tourism Commission said Tuesday.

According to figures provided by Hong Kong Immigration Department, 540,285 mainland visitors, accounting for 61 percent of the total arrivals, came to Hong Kong during the 10-day period, up 30 percent as compared with the same period last year.

Among them, 354,746, or 65.7 percent, traveled under the Individual Visitor Scheme. The proportion during the same period last year was 54.8 percent.

Visitors traveling with a group visit endorsement accounted for about 5.2 percent, the department said.
