Vietnam is expected to post cashew nut export turnovers of 670 million U.S. dollars in 2010, and 820 million dollars in 2020, up from 505 million dollars in 2006, according to the Vietnam Cashew Association on Thursday.
To this end, the country plans to increase its cashew cultivation area to 450,000 hectares in 2010 from 350,000 hectares of cashew trees in 2005. It will also import 125,000 tons of raw cashews in 2010, while producing 500,000 tons of the products.
Vietnam shipped abroad 35,000 tons of cashew nuts worth 139 million dollars in the first four months of this year, posting respective year-on-year rises of 3.9 percent and 4.3 percent, the association said.
