Vietnam eyes 10 pct growth for ICT sector
font size

Vietnam has targeted an annual growth of 10 percent for its information and communications technology ( ICT) sector by 2010, local newspaper Youth reported on Friday.

The country has eyed 55-60 telephones per 100 residents in the next three years, and 35-40 percent of local people accessing to the Internet.

Vietnam is boosting the process of equalizing state-owned enterprises operating in the sector to mobilize more capital for development, which will help it reach a turnover of 10 billion U.S. dollars in 2010, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Do Trung Ta said at a conference recently.

The sector's turnover is expected to rise to 60 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (3.75 billion dollars) this year from 49 trillion VND (3.06 billion dollars) last year.

Vietnam, with a population of over 83 million, is expected to have 38 million phone subscribers and 6 million Internet ones by the end of this year, respectively up from 27.4 million and 4 million late last year.
