Roadside bombing kills 8 policemen in S. Afghanistan
font size

A roadside bombing killed eight policemen in Kandahar province of southern Afghanistan on Saturday, provincial police chief Asmatullah Alizai told Xinhua.

A remote-controlled bomb attacked a police van at around 6 p.m. (1330 GMT) in Jalai district, killing all the eight policemen in the vehicle, Alizai said, adding the van was totally destroyed.

No one has claimed responsibility, but Taliban militants have frequently carried out similar attacks.

Kandahar has been a hotbed of Taliban rebels, who attack Afghan and foreign troops frequently.

Due to rising Taliban-linked insurgency, over 1,200 people, mostly Taliban militants, have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
