Russia has expressed satisfaction over the settlement of a hostage incident occurred in its embassy in Costa Rica, the Itar-Tass news agency reported on Saturday.
"We are satisfied with the fact that the incident at our diplomatic mission in San Jose was resolved peacefully and no one was injured," Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin was quoted as saying.
The 20-year-old Roman Bogdanian, who moved to the Caribbean country from Kyrgyzstan about a year ago, took another visitor in the consular office as hostage with a gun after a quarrel over alleged debt on Friday. The Russian ambassador Valery Nikolaenko and several other diplomats were in the building but not the exact room then.
The young guy surrendered to the police several hours later, ending the hostage incident peacefully.
Kamynin said Russia will improve security of diplomatic missions and its personnel. He also urged Costa Rican to probe into the case and punish those guilty.
"It is very good the incident was resolved peacefully and nobody was hurt. Both men have been taken to the police and the details and the background of the incident is being investigated," Nikolaenko was quoted by Itar-Tass as saying.
Four Russian diplomats were kidnapped and killed in Baghdad, Iraq, last June by local insurgent groups, which sparked national mourn and anger.
