China saves about 3.5 billion cubic meters of water annually

The functioning for "a Publicity Week of Water Conservation, China, 2007" has been launched in the national capital of Beijing, and this year's promotion week is set between May 13 and May 19, with its subject of "the water-saying devices to be used and spread in an all-round way so as to press ahead with the construction of water-saving cities."

To date, China still has had 661 cities with an acute water shortage and its per capita daily consumption of tap water still exceeds 200 liters, a per-capita water consumption greater than in many developed countries, and so there is still more room for water saving. In recent years, about 3.5 billion cubic meters of water has been saved on an annual basis across China, equal to five percent of the water supplies per annum.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Construction and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth of China (CYC) have appealed to youths nationwide to save every drop of water and build a sort of harmony between the man and water in a written proposal addressed to the youths and kids nationwide.
