Pacts cement Rwanda ties
font size

China and Rwanda signed a series of agreements yesterday to strengthen their bilateral relationship, including one on part cancellation of the African country's debt.

President Hu Jintao and visiting Rwandan President Paul Kagame witnessed the signing of the pacts in Beijing after official talks.

During the talks, Hu put forward a four-point proposal to enhance bilateral ties: deepen political relations, promote common development, enhance traditional friendship through exchanges and safeguard shared interests by increasing cooperation in international affairs.

"China encourages strong companies to invest in Rwanda and hopes entrepreneurs from the two countries increase understanding to seek more business opportunities and cement development," he said.

Kagame said his country wants to strengthen cooperation with China in international affairs and in the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

He added he strongly believes the implementation of the declaration of the Beijing Summit of the FOCAC will further foster economic growth in the African continent.
