China's top legislator Wu Bangguo met with visiting Rwandan President Paul Kagame on Tuesday, pledging to further cement bilateral exchanges.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China, hailed the progress of China-Rwanda cooperation in politics, economy, culture, sports, health and other areas, vowing to further expand win-win cooperation to benefit the two peoples.

As for parliamentary contacts, Wu regarded it as an important component for overall bilateral relations. China's NPC has kept sound cooperative ties with the Rwandan parliament, he said, calling on the two sides to share experience in building a democratic and legal system as well as improving state governance.

Kagame told Wu his government supports its parliament to step up friendly exchanges with China's NPC, and is ready to strengthen win-win cooperation with China in various fields.

Rwanda highly treasures its cooperation with China, Kagame said, adding he was delighted to see China's great achievements in economic and social development.

Wu also briefed the Rwandan president on China's reform and development, stressing that to correctly handle the relations among reform, development and stability poses vital importance on a country's long-term development.

This is Kagame's first state visit to China since taking office as Rwandan president. Chinese President Hu Jintao held official talks with him on Monday. Kagame will also attend the opening ceremony of the annual board meeting of the African Development Bank in Shanghai on Wednesday.
