font size

The Macao police have apprehended a casino staff who allegedly stole gaming chips worth 685,000 Hong Kong dollars (85,625 U.S. dollars), local media reported Tuesday.

The Macao Post Daily quoted police sources as saying that the 32-year-old suspect, a local resident of mixed Portuguese and Japanese origin, was taken into custody Monday after the Grand Lisboa casino management had notice the loss of the gaming chips and informed the police.

The police later searched the suspect's flat and seized a mount of cash which was believed to be exchanged from the losing casino chips, the sources were cited by the newspaper.

Further investigations are underway, according to the newspaper.
