Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu on Tuesday spoke positively of top U.S. Pacific commander Timothy Keating's China tour, vowing to join hands with the U.S. side to promote China-U.S. military ties.
Keating, Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Pacific Command, visited Beijing and eastern China's Nanjing City from May 10 to 14, which is his first China trip since taking office in late March.
During his stay, he met with senior Chinese military leaders and foreign ministry officials. He also conferred with experts and scholars of military institutions on China-U.S. military relations and regional situation.
The two countries witnessed increased military exchanges this year. During Keating's stay here, a delegation from the U.S. National Defense University Capstone Program, headed by retired general William Nyland, visited Beijing and met with Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Zhang Li.
In late March, Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Peter Pace paid his first visit to China.
