A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Tuesday China hopes World Bank's operation would not be affected by the issue related to its president Paul Wolfowitz.
Jiang Yu said at a regular press conference that China believes World Bank's executive board will properly handle the current complicated situation in accordance with the principle of equality, justice and effectiveness, to get all work of the Bank back to the normal track as soon as possible.
Noting that the World Bank is an important global development and finance organization, Jiang said China always holds that the problem should be solved in the principle of consultation, not confrontation.
The World Bank executive board will meet with World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz on Tuesday to decide his future, the bank said in a statement on Monday.
"The executive directors have this afternoon received the second report of the ad hoc group...They will meet with Mr. Wolfowitz at 5: 00 p.m. (2200 GMT) on Tuesday as part of their deliberation on the report," said the statement.
Wolfowitz has been under fire for his involvement in a pay raise and promotion for his girlfriend, a bank employee. The bank president has admitted granting her the pay raise and promotion on advice from an ethics board at the bank.
