Germany's inflation rate remained stable in April at an annual rate of 1.9 percent, with no change from the previous month, according to official figures released Wednesday.

The Federal Statistics Office in Wiesbaden stated that the April price increase was mainly driven by higher prices for food, non-alcoholic beverages and household energy.

Moreover, the introduction of tuition fees in five states of the country alone led to a 0.2-percent rise in the inflation rate.

On a month-on-month basis German consumer prices in April rose 0.4 percent from March.
