Hong Kong Marine Police said Friday they have arrested two men and seized a large quantity of electronic products, worth some 19 million Hong Kong dollars (about 2.44 million U.S. dollars).
The Marine Police said that Marine Regional Task Force and Small Boat Division mounted an anti-smuggling operation at Wong Shek Pier in Sai Kung in Kowloon on Thursday evening. Two light goods vehicles were seen unloading cargoes onto three speedboats when the police took action.
A 36-year-old male driver was arrested for assisting in exporting unmanifested cargo after failing to produce a valid manifest. Another 34-year-old male driver surrendered to the Police shortly after and was subsequently arrested for the same offense.
A total of 219 boxes of contraband products including computer harddisks, central processing units as well as watch movements worth about 19 million Hong Kong dollars were seized at scene and on the vehicles.
Investigation into the case is still underway by press time.
