Israel says it could take other military actions in Gaza
font size

Israel's air strikes on the Gaza Strip so far have been "very measured" and Israel could take "other actions" if necessary, said Sallai Meridor, Israeli ambassador to the United States, on Friday.

"Our response so far has been very measured because we understand the game plan of the other side, because we carefully assess the different options," Meridor said.

"But the situation is very volatile and the trend is very negative, which may necessitate other actions in the future -- or not so much in the future, depending on the developments," Meridor said.

Meridor did not specify what "other actions" meant, however, according to media reports, an Israeli official speaking on condition of anonymity indicated that the Israeli army, might re-enter the Gaza Strip which it abandoned in September 2005.

Three members of Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) were killed and five others wounded in an Israeli missile attack on a car traveling on a street in Gaza city on Friday afternoon.

The latest Israeli operation brought to eight the number of people killed in aerial attacks on Gaza Strip since midnight. Four Hamas men died in predawn air raid on a site for Hamas' military wing in eastern Gaza city and one bystander.

Israel has said its military action was aimed against attacks from the Palestinian side.
