Thailand posted a sharp 18.5 percent increase in the April export value, bringing the combined export growth rate for the first four months of this year to 18.3 percent, according to the Commerce Ministry.

In the month, export value reached 10.87 billion U.S. dollars, up 18.5 percent from the same period last year, while the combined amount of the first four months totaled 45.69 billion U.S dollars, Commerce Minister Krirk-krai Jirapaet said Monday.

The robust export was shown amid the 8.9 percent growth in imports in April with the value of 10.61 billion U.S. dollars. From January to April, the combined import growth was up 3.7 percent year on year at 41.17 billion U.S. dollars.

Current account surplus in April reached 260 million U.S. dollars. The surplus in the first four months is 4.5 billion U.S. dollars, Krirk-krai said.
