Overseas Chinese vow to promote China's peaceful reunificationThe South and Central American Federation for the Peaceful Reunification of China wrapped up its seventh meeting on Sunday in Caracas, pledging to promote China's peaceful reunification and adhere to the one-China policy. Some 500 overseas Chinese attended the meeting. They reached a unanimous declaration during the meeting, which said that 2007 is a key year to fight Taiwan's separatist forces and maintain peace across the Taiwan Strait. They said they were willing to promote the reunification with their greatest efforts, sincerity and patience. The declaration also said the participants agreed to adhere to the one-China policy and would try to draw together the wisdom and efforts of all Chinese people living in Central and South America toward this cause. As a non-governmental organization, the Federation seeks the reunification of the Chinese mainland and Taiwan and opposes "Taiwan independence separatist activities" in any form. It has met every year in nations across the region of South and Central America since its creation in Panama in March 2001. Previous meetings have been held in Lima, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Mexico City and the Chilean capital Santiago. Source: Xinhua |
