The United States remained Algeria's largest client in April, after purchasing goods and services worth 991 million U.S. dollars, Algeria's National Center for Data Processing and Statistics was quoted as saying by the Algerian daily Le Jeune Independant Tuesday.
According to figures on foreign trade obtained from the center, Italy with 626 million U.S. dollars, Spain with 380 million U.S. dollars and France with 359 million U.S. dollars took the 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions, followed by the Netherlands, Belgium and Turkey, with 188 million U.S. dollars, 162 million U.S. dollars and 158 million U.S. dollars respectively.
With regard to suppliers during the same month, France maintained the first position, with 442 million U.S. dollars, followed by Italy, China and Argentina, with 189 million U.S. dollars, 165 million U.S. dollars and 136 million U.S. dollars respectively.
In April, Algeria exported goods and services worth 4.16 billion U.S. dollars, while its imports stood at 2.09 billion U.S. dollars. The hydrocarbon products continued to dominate Algerian exports during the period under review, taking 98.08 percent of the total value of exports from the country.
Imported products were primarily made up of plant and equipment intended for production purposes, as well as consumer goods both foodstuffs and non foodstuffs.
