Chinese shares close higher on May 23

Chinese shares closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closing up at 4173.71 points, rising 1.54 percent or 63.33 points from the previous close.

The index, which tracks both yuan-denominated A shares and hard-currency B shares traded on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, closed at 4,110.38 points on Tuesday.
