Chinese shares closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up at 4,179.78 points, rising 0.69 percent or 28.65 points from the previous close.

The index, which tracks both yuan-denominated A shares and hard-currency B shares traded on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, closed at 4,151.13 points on Thursday.
