Singaporean Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew on Friday gave a positive evaluation of the recent improvement of ties between Japan and China during meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
The elder statesman, who is here for a conference of Asian political and business leaders, described the mending of Japan- China ties as a favorable factor for the overall economic growth in Asia, and expressed his willingness to see further development of the bilateral relationship.
He gave his viewpoint that China is seeking a peaceful and stable international environment for its economic development.
Abe for his part said Japan would like to see China follow the track of peaceful rising.
Lee also complimented Abe on his efforts in repairing Japan's ties with China and expressed hopes for further progress, according to local media reports.
About Japan's newly-announced initiative to halve global greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, Lee said it is a step forward in the process of dealing with "a very important subject threatening the whole world."
He recommended Japan to take the combat against global warming as an appropriate field for cooperation with China.
Abe unveiled on later Thursday the ambitious proposal aimed at easing climate change, showing Japan's clear-cut intention to create and lead a post-Kyoto Protocol framework.
