German President Horst Koehler left Shanghai on Saturday, concluding his first state visit to China since taking office.

In China's financial hub Shanghai, Koehler told Shanghai Mayor Hang Zheng that Germany will enhance cooperation with Shanghai in areas like finance, energy, high-tech and tourism.

Koehler was also present at the centennial of the founding of

Shanghai-based Tongji University and took a maglev train, the world's first commercial maglev train based on German technology.

Koehler arrived in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province on Wednesday, starting his four-day state visit to China.

During his stay in Beijing, Koehler held talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao, and met with Premier Wen Jiabao and top political advisor Jia Qinglin.
