HK top commercial official to visit South Korea, Japan

Joseph WP Wong, secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) left Hong Kong Tuesday afternoon on a three-day visit to South Korea and Japan.

Wong will first fly to Seoul, South Korea, where he will meet South Korean Minister of Information and Communication Rho Jun- hyong and visit a telecommunications company and the Ubiquitous Dream Hall which showcases the development of the information and communications technologies (ICT) sector in South Korea.

He will also officiate at the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) 10th Anniversary Reception in Seoul, according to a press statement from the HKSAR government.

In Tokyo, Japan, Wong will attend the HKSAR 10th Anniversary Symposium, organized by the Japan/Hong Kong and Hong Kong/Japan Business Co-operation Committee. He will deliver a keynote speech to update the Japanese business community on Hong Kong's latest economic situation and the commercial relations between Hong Kong and Japan.

Wong will also meet Japanese Senior Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Norihisa Tamura and President of NHK Genichi Hashimoto to exchange views on the development of the ICT and public broadcasting sectors in the two places.

He will officiate at the HKSAR 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner in Tokyo before ending his visit. Wong will return to Hong Kong on Friday.
