China says OIE's resolution shows int'l support of one-China policy
font size

China said on Tuesday the resolution adopted by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) to resume China's rights as a member state showed that the international community, in general, supports the "one-China policy".

"A overwhelming majority of the OIE members have voted for the resolution. This shows that the international community at large supports the one-China policy," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said at a regular press conference.

According to Jiang, the OIE passed the resolution last Friday by an overwhelming majority, on the basis of reiterating the one-China policy, resuming the legal rights of China as a sovereign country, while allowing China's Taiwan to take part in the organization's activities as a non-sovereign region under the name of "Chinese Taipei".

Jiang said the Chinese central government supported the development of the island's health sector, adding that the government would continue to strengthen cooperation across the Taiwan straits on animal health.
