Chinese vice premier meets GE chairman

Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan met with GE Chairman of the Board and CEO Jeffrey Immelt here Tuesday, and they discussed issues on environmental protection and energy saving.

Zeng is satisfied with the progress made in the GE Ecomagination plan in China, and said he hopes GE can strengthen cooperation with the Chinese government in environmental protection and energy saving.

Ecomagination is GE's company-wide commitment to address global environmental challenges such as the need for cleaner, more efficient sources of energy, reduced emissions and abundant sources of clean water. The whole program consists of relevant products, services and projects.

Zeng said the Chinese government attaches importance to environmental protection and energy saving, and has taken measures to strengthen the reduction of pollutant discharge, find renewable and clean energy resources.

He added that the fast-growing economy provides China with a huge market, and he hopes GE can increase cooperation with Chinese companies, especially in research and development.

The two sides also exchanged views on cooperation in such areas as power generation with clean coal, aviation, rail transportat and water treatment.
