Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko on Tuesday signed a decree to suspend an early decree dissolving Parliament, and gave legislators two days to approve laws needed for early national elections to go ahead.
The president's website states that the president signed the decree in order to ensure the legality of the parliamentary meetings on May 29-30.
The decree also called on all parties involved to act promptly to resolve Ukraine's political crisis and allow the parliamentary elections to go ahead smoothly.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's parliament on Tuesday began a plenary meeting to discuss laws related to the early parliamentary elections.
Tensions between Yushchenko and Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich have been building since the president signed a decree in April ordering the dissolution of parliament and calling early elections.
The two reached an agreement on Sunday to hold early parliamentary elections on Sept. 30, diffusing the months-long political crisis that had threatened to erupt into violence.
