Members of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) held talks over internal situation of the Palestinian territories with Egyptian officials in Cairo, a spokesman said on Thursday.
Ayman Taha, who joined Hamas delegation to Cairo, told Voice of Palestine radio that the first round of talks with the Egyptian government was exploratory.
"We will discuss the internal situation and the ceasefire with Israel," Taha said.
Deputies representing the two rival Palestinian groups of Hamas and Fatah went to Cairo to open talks with the Egyptian government after they violated a power-sharing deal and fought each other in bloody clashes in Gaza.
The internal strife, started earlier this month, were the most violent between the two factions who share power in the current Palestinian government they agreed to form after talks in Saudi Arabia's holy city of Mecca in February.
Taha said the current negotiations in Cairo were meant to reinforce Mecca agreement and there will be no new deals.
Meanwhile, another delegation from Fatah holds separate talks with Egyptian officials.
The two Palestinian movements are expected to resume their mutual talks in Gaza next Saturday, an Egyptian representative told reporters.
