Nepali Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Girija Prasad Koirala has asserted that the government was committed to maintain the law and order situation in the country to hold timely Constituent Assembly (CA) election, local media reported on Sunday.
Addressing a mass meeting in Jhapa district in eastern Nepal Saturday, Koirala said that holding the CA polls was impossible unless an effective law and order situation is maintained in the country, according to a leading website eKantipur.com report.
Koirala said, "I will hold the elections in November at any cost," adding that sometimes stringent measures must be taken to maintain law and order, and they (parties) must be prepared for this.
"The elections cannot be held without guaranteeing peace and security," he said.
"Nepal has gone to prove that all problems can be resolved through dialogue and not through the barrel of the guns," he added.
The PM said that the first sitting of the CA, decided with the people's aspirations, would end monarchy.
"Nepali Congress will no longer carry monarchy on its shoulders. .. the people do not want one monarch removed, only to be replaced by another crownless king," Koirala said.
He further said that the king was not likely to flee the nation immediately after a republic declaration and hence underscored the need for procedural republic declaration.
