Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met his Russian and Kuwaiti counterparts in Seoul Monday to promote ties and exchange opinions on major international issues.

The ministers are here to attend the 6th Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), which kicked off in the South Korean capital Monday.

When meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Yang expressed hope that major agreements between the Chinese and Russian presidents would be fully implemented and the "Year of China" activities in Russia move forward smoothly and produce tangible achievements.

The Chinese foreign minister also said high-level contacts between the two countries should be maintained and strategic ties of cooperation between the two sides be brought to a higher level.

China and Russia should enhance dialogue and mutual trust, and continue to support each other on major issues such as international and regional security, Lavrov said.

The two ministers agreed to communicate and coordinate with each other to make successful the upcoming summit of the G8 and developing nations, as well as the summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The two sides also exchanged opinions on the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and agreed to work together for an early breakthrough of the six-party talks, which also involve the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the United States, South Korea and Japan.

During his meeting with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Yang lauded Sino-Kuwaiti relations and said he hoped the two sides could have closer political consultations and strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, energy and other areas.

For his part, Mohammad said Kuwait attaches great importance to its relations with China and is willing to maintain high-level contacts with China and enhance cooperation.

When talking of Iraq, the Chinese foreign minister said China supports the sovereignty, stability and development of Iraq, and holds that all factions should strengthen unity and enhance dialogue.

The United Nations should continue its efforts in the country and China is ready to play a positive role in Iraqi reconstruction.

On Iran's nuclear issue, Yang said the best solution is through diplomatic negotiations, which is in conformity with the common interests of the international community.

The Kuwaiti foreign minister echoed Yang's remarks, saying he hoped that Iraq could restore security and achieve national reconciliation as soon as possible, and Iran's nuclear issue could achieve a peaceful solution as well.
