    Premier Wen visits quake-hit residents in S.W. China

    1700-year-old town rebuilt in southwest China

    A 1700-year-old town named "Dachang" has been rebuilt at the side of the Dachang Lake in the region of Three Gorges in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality. The ancient town, covering an area about 48.7 square kilometers, will open on October 1, 2007.

    Continuous drought hits Sichuan Province

    11 dead, 24 hurt in Australian rail accident

    The most serious rail accident since 1997 has occurred in Australia yesterday, when a large truck crashed into a passenger train, killing 11 people and injuring 24. Eighty-three people were killed in the accident in 1977, when a passenger train was derailed and smashed against a crossover.

    Five dead, three injured in lightning strike
