Chinese shares up slightly on Wednesday

China's benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which tracks both yuan-denominated A shares and hard-currency B shares, rose 0.24 percent on Wednesday, or 9.22 points to close at 3,776.32 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index soared 2.67 percent, or 320.47 points, to close at 12,338.18 points.

Chinese stock markets have stopped declining in the last two days, after nose-diving on Monday by 8.26 percent.

But trade was volatile. The Shanghai Composite Index fell as much as 2.26 percent in the early trading before rebounding to a high of 3,821.697.

The two bourses reported a total turnover of 274.864 billion yuan Wednesday, lower than 275.03 billion yuan on Tuesday but far higher than 225.89 billion yuan on Monday.
