Philippine president visits southwest China province

Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo arrived in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, for an investigation tour on Development of western China.

Arroyo, heading a 40-member delegation composed of business people in the sectors of foodstuff, tourism and information technology, is here to learn about the social and economic development of the province in a bid to promote trade cooperation between the two sides.

Du Qinglin, secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, met with Arroyo upon her arrival, and briefed her about the development of the region.

The Philippine president also addressed a business seminar on cooperation between Chengdu and the Philippines.

Besides Chengdu, Arroyo's current China trip will take her to Chongqing Municipality.
