Shanghai -- Logistics to become key industry

The logistics industry will become a key industry in Shanghai. Between 2006 and 2010, Shanghai hopes to preliminarily establish itself as one of the most important locations for logistics in the world as well as one of Asia-Pacific's logistics centers.

According to Shanghai's new modern logistics development plan, in order to establish modern logistics as a key industry by 2010, the average annual augmentation rate of the value in the city-wide logistics industry must remain above ten percent. The increase rate of the industry's value has to be thirteen percent of the city's total production value, and based on an established rate of 15.5 percent in 2005, the percentage of total social logistics expenses used for production should decrease by 1 to 2 percent.
