One year after the Zambia Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification of China (ZCPPNRC) was established, Zambia has said it will encourage volunteer activities to promote China's peaceful reunification.
The council is a "grand idea," said Mike Mulongoti, Zambia's information minister, at a gathering marking the first anniversary of the ZCPPNRC.
Their volunteer activities in the southern African country must be encouraged because "Zambia always supports peace-loving people in the world," he added.
A powerful China poses no threat to the world, Mulongoti said. And China's growing economy will bring prosperity to the whole world.
The ZCPPNRC serves as an important platform for Chinese, both from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan province, to promote China's peaceful reunification and fight against separatist activities aimed at independence for Taiwan.
"There is only one China in the world,"said ZCPPNRC president Mr Roger Lee, a businessman from Taiwan, who is now living in Zambia.
Lee said ZCPPNRC's aim is not only to promote China's peaceful reunification but also to "make active contributions to increasing the solidarity of the Chinese societies in Zambia."
