Tanzania detains 38 illegal Somali immigrants
font size

Tanzanian immigration officers have detained 38 Somali nationals for entering the country illegally.

These illegal immigrants have got into the country by boats, according to police sources on Friday.

Tanga Regional Police Commander Simon Sirro said these illegal immigrants had been stopped after they had crossed over by boats from the Kenyan side of the Indian Ocean.

This is the fifth large haul of illegal immigrants in the country this year.

Ninety-nine Ethiopians were caught for entering the country illegally earlier this year while 58 Somali nationals were found in the country in April without proper visas for either Tanzania or their alleged travel destinations.

Most of the illegal immigrants detained in this country claim to be on transit to South Africa or other African countries.
