Tanzanian President and ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi party National Chairman Jakaya Kikwete on Monday met with Zhang Dejiang, a politburo member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee.

Zhang is in Dar es Salaam as the head of the Chinese delegation.

The Tanzanian president spoke highly of the inter-party and country-to-country relations. He said that China and Tanzania are old friends and he expressed his gratitude to China's assistance to the development of Tanzania.

Kikwete told the Chinese visitors that his country would like to learn from China. He added that Tanzania aspires to forge effective cooperation with China in various fields and he especially hoped that the business people from Guangdong province would invest in his country.

Zhang forwarded the greetings from Chinese President Hu Jintao to Kikwete, and also spoke highly of the time-tested friendship between the two parties and the two countries.

The Chinese visitor thanked the Tanzanian government and people for their support on the issue of Taiwan and human rights and he said that the two parties and the two countries need to strength exchange and cooperation in the changed situation of the world.

Zhang briefed the Tanzanian president about the latest development in both Guangdong in particular and China as a whole.

The Chinese party delegation arrived here late on Saturday last week for a friendly visit at the invitation of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi party.

The ongoing African tour took the Chinese party delegation to Morocco and Angola before it arrived in Dar es Salaam.
