FBI hails U.S.-China terrorism cooperation

A deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States on Wednesday hailed its cooperation with China on terrorism.

"I am satisfied with the level of cooperation on terrorism with China," Thomas Fuentes, assistant director of the FBI, told a briefing on Wednesday.

He said the FBI is working with Chinese public security officials to track the role of "East Turkistan" groups in China's northwest in terrorist activities and their possible links with al Qaeda.

The hour-long briefing took place in U.S. Embassy in Beijing and came one day ahead of the sixth meeting of Joint Liaison Group between China and the United States on law enforcement cooperation.

Fuentes said the two-day meeting will address law-enforcement issues concerning the fight against corruption, cyber crime, fugitive matters, human smuggling, intellectual property, mutual legal assistance and repatriation.
