CAF sets new date for Burundi-Egypt match of African Nations Cup qualifiers
font size

The match between the Egyptian national football team and its Burundi counterpart in the African Nations Cup qualifiers has been rescheduled for Sept. 7-9, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) said on its website Friday.

The game was originally switched to the Rwandan capital of Kigali this weekend because of the ongoing pitch refurbishment and installation of a new artificial turf at the Bujumbura Stadium in Burundi, said the CAF.

On June 12, the CAF decided to postpone the match between Burundi and Egypt due to logistical problems encountered in Kigali.

However, the pan-African football body didn't say whether the rescheduled match would be in Burundi or Rwanda.

Furthermore, the CAF also rescheduled the remaining matches in this group in order to "give equal chances to all the participating teams."

The two remaining matches in Group Two of the African Nations Cup qualifiers, Egypt vs. Botswana and Mauritania vs. Burundi, will be held on Oct. 12, 13 or 14, said the CAF.

The Egyptian team is on top of this group with eight points, two ahead of second-placed Burundi.
