Spain's Council of Ministers on Friday approved the International Adoption Law, seeking more facilities for parents and more guarantees for children, Spain's first Deputy Prime Minister Maria Teresa Fernandez said.
Fernandez said the law includes the existing legislation and guarantees that the adoption of foreign minors is valid in Spain and in the minor's motherland.
The new law intends to avoid trafficking of minors and discrimination for nationality, gender, race or any reason whatsoever.
The petition for international adoptions will be made by the public entities of the autonomous communities.
Fernandez said Spaniards adopt over 5,000 foreign minors annually from more than 30 countries, placing their country as the world's number one country in this sector.
