font size

Chinese leaders called for more efforts to develop public cultural services in a meeting held by the top decision-making body of Communist Party of China (CPC) in Beijing on Saturday.

The meeting, chaired by the CPC Central Committee General Secretary Hu Jintao, was attended by members of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee.

"China should make great efforts to expand the network of cultural services in rural areas as well as central and western regions," said a statement issued after the meeting.

It also urged more efforts to build cultural facilities such as television and radio broadcasters, libraries and museums.

The meeting also called on local Party and government leaders to attach great importance to development of cultural services and make it a key issue of their work.
