Zhao Hongzhu was on Saturday elected secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Zhao, born in July 1947 and a native of Ningcheng, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, was elected to the post at the first plenary session of the 12th Zhejiang Provincial Committee of CPC held in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province, on Saturday.

Zhao had been appointed to the post by the CPC Central Committee in a decision made in late March, to replace Xi Jinping, who was appointed secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee earlier.

Yu Zhengsheng was elected as the secretary of Hubei Provincial CPC Committee.

The election was held at the first plenary session of the Ninth Hubei Provincial CPC Committee which was held in Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province, central China, on Saturday.
