India's paramilitary force Saturday entered southwestern Nepal and beat up five Nepalis, The Kathmandu Post reported Sunday.
Armed personnel of Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB), India's paramilitary force deployed along the India-Nepal border, beat up and injured five Nepalis of Bardiya district, some 400 km southwest of capital Kathmandu, after entering Nepali territory on Saturday morning, the report said.
It quoted victims as saying that eight armed SSB men turned up at a farm where they were grazing their cattle and beat up them severely.
"Two of them attacked me with rifle butts," said 55-year-old Aaite Kumari Bote.
In the aftermath of the incident, hundreds of Nepalis protested against the SSB men, demanding action against the guilty and treatment for the injured.
After the situation turned tense due to the protest, additional SSB troops were deployed, while a team of Nepali policemen was also sent to the place by district police office.
Both sides held talks and the protest was called off in the evening after SSB Inspector L N Singh apologized conceding that his personnel made a mistake, said the report.
