Chinese key stock index slightly up

China's share prices posted a slight gain on Tuesday as the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.38 percent, or 16.17 points, to close at 4,269.52.

The key Shanghai index, which covers both A- and B-shares listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, was traded between 4,209.57 and 4,280.85 on turnover of 185.6 billion yuan (24.1 billion U.S. dollars).

The Shenzhen Component Index on the nation's smaller bourse was up 1.00 percent, or 141.85 points to finish at 14,336.4 on turnover of 100.1 billion yuan (13 billion U.S. dollars).
