Woman suspected in baby-trafficking ring transferred to GuangxiA woman who was arrested in connection with a massive baby-trafficking ring has been transferred from custody in central China to police in the southwest of the country where the crimes were discovered. Police had been seeking Ji Xiulan, 58, for the last four years in connection with the selling of 118 babies across the country. Ji, a native of Bianzhuang Village of Cuocheng Township, Yongcheng City in the central Henan Province, was arrested by patrol police on June 8 and turned over to police in Hengxian County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on June 15, said an officer with the Yongcheng public security bureau. Guangxi police in 2003 broke up a ring involving more than 50 people who were suspected of trafficking 118 babies in Guangxi, Henan, Anhui and Hubei provinces and other parts of China. The police official said they were informed by Guangxi police that four suspects were from one family in Yongcheng -- Ji Xiulan, her husband, her son Liu Yujie and her daughter-in-law. Liu Yujie and his wife have already been arrested and convicted. Both Ji Xiulan and her husband, however, were wanted until June 8. Ji's husband is still at large. Hengxian County police on Wednesday refused to comment Ji's case. Source: Xinhua |
