A news conference held by the State Council Information Office announced that, in 2006, the per capita GDP in China's Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), reached 10,396 Yuan- exceeding 10,000 Yuan for the first time.
Qiangba Puncog, chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Government, said that fifty years after the peaceful liberation of Tibet- under the loving care of the Central Committee, the energetic support of the people throughout the country, and through the arduous efforts of people of all nationalities in Tibet- the economy and society is developing comprehensively. Now it has entered a new stage of advancement and is making great leaps in development, and building a comfortable and well-off society.
In 2006, the GDP in China's Tibet Autonomous Region reached 29.005 billion Yuan, retaining a growth rate of over 12 percent for six successive years. The net per capita income of farmers reached 2,435 Yuan, with double-digit growth for four continuous years.
