Indonesian Army sets terms for defense deal with SingaporeIndonesian Army Chief of Staff Gen. Djoko Santoso has issued conditions to be met by Singapore in order to implement the much-criticized Defense Cooperation Agreement with Indonesia, local press said Saturday. He said the conditions included stipulations that Singapore must abide by Indonesian laws during training in Indonesian territory; Singapore could not involve other countries without permission; and there must be a separate time allocation for the Indonesian Army as well as time for rehabilitation, reported English daily The Jakarta Post. Djoko said although the DCA indicated Singapore was allowed to include other countries, the Army's training area in Baturaja, South Sumatra was not involved as part of the DCA. "Both Singapore and Indonesia are still discussing the number of Singaporean soldiers allowed in the Baturaja training ground," he said. Source: Xinhua |
