The U.S. military on Sunday announced the killing of two more of its soldiers in Iraq on Saturday, bringing the number of the American soldiers killed in the day to 10.

A U.S. soldier was killed when insurgents attacked his patrol with small arms fire while conducting combat operations in southern the Iraqi capital, the military statement said.

Another soldier died in non-combat related incident, a brief statement said, without specifying the location of the incident, but said the incident is currently under investigation.

Earlier, the U.S. military said that eight more U.S. soldiers were killed in the day and three more injured, including four in a single roadside bomb attack.

The four soldiers were killed when a roadside bomb detonated near their vehicle northwest of Baghdad on Saturday, the military said.

An Iraqi interpreter was also wounded in the attack, it added.

Two more soldiers were killed and three others injured when their unit was struck with a roadside bomb, then came under small arms fire in eastern the capital, another statement said.

A U.S. airman died of wounds sustained form a roadside bombing near his vehicle in Tikrit, 170 km north of Baghdad, the military said.

A tenth soldier assigned to the Task Force Lightning, which is active in north of Baghdad, died from a non-battle related cause, a brief statement said.

More than 3,555 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the Iraq war broke out in March 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
