Li Jianguo was elected secretary of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Thursday.

Li was elected at the first plenary session of the ninth CPC Shandong Provincial Committee, while Jiang Daming and Liu Wei were elected as deputy secretaries.

Li was appointed Party chief of Shandong in March after serving two terms as secretary of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee.

He was born in Juancheng City, Shandong Province, in April 1946 and joined the CPC in June 1971. He graduated from Shandong University with a major in Chinese language in 1970.

Li occupied several government posts in the port city of Tianjin before being appointed Party chief of northwest Shaanxi Province in 1998.
